1.Dutch higher education.

Dutch universities have a very high reputation. When students from abroad come to study here they find out that many things are different, for example mentality, climate, food, habbits. The grading system may also be different from in your home country.

Dutch grading system:

10- outstanding

9-very good

8-good

7-more than satisfactory

6-satisfactory

5-almost satisfactory

4-unsatisfactory

3-very unsatisfactory

2-poor

1-very poor

You can hardly get 1-3 or 9-10.

2.Universities

There are two types of universities in the Netherlands: research universities and universities of applied sciences.

Classical research universities offer research-oriented programmes.

Universities of applied sciences are more practice oriented. They prepare students for specific professions and future carrier.

Utrecht University ( classical research university)

http://www.uu.nl/en/education

Founded in 1636 and located in the heart of the Netherlands, Utrecht University is one of Europe's leading research universities, recognised internationally for its high-quality, innovative approach to research and teaching. As an international student, you’re in good company at Utrecht University. Every year, approximately 1,500 international students come to Utrecht University to take English-taught degree programmes and other courses. With some 118 nationalities working and studying closely together, students learn to operate in an international environment from the outset, which is essential for scientists and scholars in this increasingly globalised world.

Internship

The third year is entirely dedicated to your minor and your internship. You will spend at least half a year in a non-native environment. Dutch students have to spend at least half a year abroad; international students can choose to stay in The Netherlands. A minor is a 6 months study, either at one of our many foreign partner universities or at any school or university in the Netherlands. You can choose to study a different subject for your minor, such as economics, journalism, or law, but the HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht also offers a wide range of different minors you can choose from each year.

During the final year of ICM, you can choose between three specializations: Media, Communication or Marketing & Advertising.

Nothing compares with the real-world learning experience of an internship! During your two internship periods, you’ll get a real taste of the business world outside school. You can make your internships as challenging and diverse as you wish. Our internship coordinators are on hand to give you all the guidance you need. You have to complete at least one of your internships abroad. Internship 1 is in the second year and lasts 11 weeks; Internship 2 is in the fourth year and lasts 20 weeks. Your second internship could well be an important step towards finding your first job after graduation!

English:

In your second year you will spend ten weeks of the programme doing a work placement in an English-speaking country such as the United Kingdom, the United States or Australia etc.

German:

In the first year of the programme, you will visit schools in the border region, where you will have a chance to take active part in classes – as a conversational partner in Dutch lessons, for example – and to see how modern language instruction is organized in practice. Teaming up with your fellow students, you will plan your own study trip to Berlin based on what you can learn there as a teacher.

Besides this trip, you will also stay in Germany or Austria for a longer period during your studies, where you will be immersed in the language and culture of the country and gain all sorts of new impressions and experiences.
